A few days ago, there was a lot of talk about whether Elon Musk would buy MSNBC or not, and I'll give you an explanation of the company's governance structure and history.

History:
As you all know, NBC, along with ABC and CBS, is a company called Big 3 in the American broadcasting industry. In Korea, it is about the status of KBS. NBC was originally founded by a radio company called Radio Corporation of America in 1926, and the parent company of RCA was the famous GE. Created by Edison, the invention king.

But GE, which lost NBC because of anti-trust laws in the 1930s, took over NBC again in 1986. And in 2004, GE combined NBC and Universal. Yes, this is the Universal Studios and Universal film company you know. From then on, the company's official name will be changed to NBC Universal.

Anyway, just as NBC was created by a radio company around the time the era of TV was about to begin, NBC began to worry about the Internet in the 1990s. So, in 1996, he created a new channel called MSNBC by combining with Microsoft Corporation, a leading Internet company.

However, as you can see, we failed to create an innovative platform, and Microsoft began dropping out in 2005 and completely divested itself in 2012. MSNBC, like CNN, becomes a 24-hour news channel.

On the other hand, CNBC, which my followers know better, is a subsidiary of NBC created only for stock and business news in 1989. It's all CNBC featuring Ron Baron and Gordon Johnson.

So there are several channels under NBCUniversal, some of which are CNBC, MSNBC, Telemundo, etc.

Back to the big picture, in 2011, when the financial crisis started, GE ended up selling NBCUniversal to a cable giant called Comcast (Comcast also has a British SKY that any football fan would know about). So just to look at part of the current governance structure:

                     “Comcast”
                         /           \
“NBC Universal”   “Sky”
               /           \
“MSNBC”   “CNBC”

You can see it like this. And now Comcast has announced that it's going to split up several cable channels, including MSNBC and CNBC, and I think it's going to be split up.

MSNBC's political orientation:
MSNBC is becoming progressive as time goes by. In the past, programs like Hardball with Chris Matthews were a little bit left-of-center, but these days, it's safe to say that they're just the most progressive of Legacy Media. A case in point here is Rachel Maddow, who is one of the most progressive if people like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson are conservative.

If it's funny why Elon Musk is buying a real MSNBC, it's one of the most hostile media outlets to Elon Musk. I'll just go into MSNBC and search "Elon Musk" and see what comes out:

Not only that, but the Maddow I mentioned earlier is criticizing Musk, Trump, Putin, and Kim Jong-un for uniting them, and NASA is even saying that Musk and SpaceX should not be given work.

Like I said, Comcast isn't just selling MSNBC, it's going to make a new company by collecting all the cables and splitting them up. So it seems unlikely that Musk will buy all of these cable companies right now. It would be pretty funny to buy MSNBC in the distant future. It's like Rhyu Si-min is buying Chosun Ilbo.

(By the way, one of my professors once worked as vice president of marketing for a channel called Telemundo and NBC. You talked about NBC a lot, but I still remember it, so I wrote this).
